Diet Starts Monday

Hello and Happy Monday!
"Diet starts Monday" is a common phrase around these parts, but really today the Davis' start eating healthy again!
We are not on any particular diet, just cooking more, and eating less sugar and white flour carbs.
I start off every morning with a glass of fresh lemon water, and now a vegan kale smoothie.
What are your healthy eating/dieting tricks?  Please do share!

Kale Smoothie

5 Kale leaves with stems removed
organic banana
frozen pineapple
green apple
blueberries
ground flax seeds
almond milk
water
(sometimes I throw some coconut water in too)

These pics are helping motivate me.
Here's to looking good in spring and summer outfits!

I tell myself, "I'll start on Monday" all too often. Today, though, I'm making a valiant effort! Here's to a good week for both of us!

I just started too! My husband and I both. It starting to get annoying when everyone asked what diet we are doing. We just generally want to eat healthier and cut out a lot of processed foods, sugar and white flour too.

The biggest thing for me, is mustering up the energy to prepare something when I get home from working all day. I love to cook, I just rarely feel like it.

One of my personal favorites is spaghetti squash, plain or with homemade sauce. I don't know how good it is for you, but I FEEL healthy eating it. That counts, right?

Thanks for the smoothie recipe-I will have to try that...we have been trying to drink more "green" smoothies around here with a kale base :)

This is exactly what hubs and I try to do...just eat cleaner...more fruits and veggies, less carbs and sugars. It is always helpful to have a partner-in-crime for support! Happy Monday!

WAy to go! You feel so good when you start to eat healthily again. I know I get more energy. I started Michelle Bridges (from Australian Biggest Loser) crunchtime cookbook. It is FABULOUS. The recipes are so tasty (most imporatant) the family eat them too, they are filling and healthy. And yes I am even losing weight doing it ;-) I just love knowing that we as a family are all eating so healthy and my shopping list now entails 40 fruit and veg items a couple of dairy/bread etc and barely any pantry items. I love it!!! Enjoy xx

Try baked sweet potatos! They are sweet enough without adding anything and extremely healthy and filling.

I'm excited to test out the Kale Smoothie! I emailed you on March 11th regarding your bookplates and still haven't received a reply, but I totally understand that you are busy. I just wanted to double check that you had received my email?

i like to cut out all gluten and dairy :) it makes me feel so much less lethargic/bloated (=more energy!!), and i just make sure that i have enough fats (avocado, real irish butter, and coconut oil- are my main ones) so that i don't go crazy and overload on tortilla chips :)
oh, and i chug water like mad, but i think everyone does that :)
p.s. that smoothie looks good!

Hi there! First off, I love your blog and the photos you post of your sweet family.

Sounds like you are on the right track with your diet. I started a similar diet back in November cutting out all white carbs and sugar. I have lost 30 pounds and I am still loosing. I'm not overweight and I am a small person. I was just looking to trim down my belly. There is something about those white carbs that do a number on me and my waistline. If I stay away from them the pounds start shedding off. I eat several small meals a day. Nothing special, lots of hummas though and diet drinks. This type of dieting follows the Slow-Carb diet that Nicole of Sketch42 blog recently blogged about. http://sketch42blog.com/2011/03/tim-ferriss-tells-you-how-to-lose-20-pounds-in-30-days/

I think it is a very effective way to loose weight very quickly with minimal exersise, which is somthing I rarely have time to fit into my schedule.

Also, I love it when you post your receipes!

Have a great day and good luck with your dieting! :)

Eating vegan works and the results are immediate! It starts off easy because you're motivated and excited to try something new, but it is difficult to stick with after a few months, I can attest. That kale smoothie sounds yum, I'll have to try it! Healthy snacks throughout the day help you stay trim as well. And carrots + hummus beat chips + salsa/dip and crackers + cheese any day! :)

You must take up juicing! My fav is kale, cucumber, celery, lemon and green apple. Yum! And also a shot of wheatgrass helps with cravings. :)

I love juicing too, carrot juice with fennel and apple. mmm. Lately I have been working out really hard (Jillian Michaels DVDs) so I find myself wanting to eat really well too. Why kick my butt if I am going to then eat a burger and fries? right? :) Good luck! I know I feel SO much better not eating so much sugar/white flour.

Here's to looking good, however I must say I think you look much better than any of those girls in the pics... Here's to being healthy and looking healthy! Skinny does not always mean looking good. You look fantastic and I have yet to see you not look good in a spring and summer outfit! Thanks for the recipe too... will try!

Hey there. You do look better than any of those pictures! They all look malnourished! (Not to mention totally unrealistic.) But good job getting healthier!
