Family Room Built In

A couple months back I finished our Family Room built in!
I love having small spaces of our place finished, it is such a good feeling....
For our built in I really wanted it to reflect the space it was in, and not be too distracting when we want to relax and watch a good show.
I love me some Brothers and Sisters.

The best part of it is: my collection of white vases is complete. Sigh!
They are a mix of flea market finds, Ikea, West Elm and a couple from Chameleon Home.
I really love the way they all look together.
This is definitely my favorite part.

I found a few inexpensive glass vases at Anthropologie and decided to just use whatever I already had to finish the shelves.
Old books wrapped in paper, old frames painted white, and a couple more flea market finds.

Here is a couple shots of other elements in the room.

I love this table, I grew up with it in my parents house for as long as I can remember, when it finally got the boot I snagged it and gave it a few coats of Ultra High Gloss white paint.
Love the claw and ball feet!

water bobble

Presley and I both are loving our new water bobbles!
And I am always a sucker for good design, especially when it is eco friendly.
I first heard of water bobbles from Kristen Bell on a photo shoot I styled.
Check them out. The new kids bobbles are to die for!

Maple Glazed Sweet Potatoes with Pecan Topping

My mom and I went to a cooking class at Sur La Table yesterday afternoon.
It was a lot of fun, and definitely educational.
I had to share with you my favorite recipe for your Thanksgiving table!
This recipe was adapted from bon appetit.

Maple Glazed Sweet Potatoes & Yams with Pecan Topping

4 pounds mixed yams and sweet potatoes peeled, and cut into 1 inch thick rounds
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
pinch of salt
8 tablespoons (1 stick) chilled butter, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup packed golden brown sugar
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Butter 9x13" glass baking dish. Place yams and sweet potatoes in your food processor with a sliced setting, remove thinly sliced yams and potatoes and place in baking dish.

Mix yams, sweet potatoes, and maple syrup. Season with a pinch of salt. Dot with 3 tablespoons of butter. Cover and bake until yams and sweet potatoes are almost tender, about 25 minutes.

Mix flour, brown sugar, remaining 5 tablespoons butter and pecans in food processor. Sprinkle mixture atop of yams and sweet potatoes. Bake until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

I loved the texture and flavor of these roasted yams!! They were delicious!

White Chicken Chili

It is chilly outside and I am loving it! Finally some good fall weather.
I thought I'd share what we've been enjoying this week.
One of my favorite soups that my friend made for me and I've been hooked ever since!

White Chicken Chili

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tsp garlic powder
1 TBSP olive oil
48 ounces Great Northern Beans (drained and rinsed)
1 1/2 c. chicken broth
8 ounces chopped green chiles
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp dried oregano
½ tsp pepper
¼ tsp cayenne pepper
1 cup light sour cream
½ cup whipping cream (I use half & half)

Boil chicken and shred. Saute’ onions in oil with Garlic Powder. Add beans, broth, chiles and seasonings. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes (uncovered). Remove from heat, stir in sour cream and whipping cream. Serve

I like mine sprinkled with grated sharp cheddar cheese and Trader Joe's Multigrain Tortilla Chips.

utah weekend

We spent the weekend in Utah, and I soaked up the amazing fall weather I was craving!
We were in Provo for all of about 24 hours, but I made sure to stop by a couple of my favorites.

A stop in Alice Lane Home of course.
I can't get enough of this store!
And if you are in the area, run don't walk to their holiday decor.
It is so beautiful, I wanted it all!

And I can't be in Provo without a visit the Pizzeria 712 and Soel Boutique.
Both favorites!

We spent the rest of the weekend up in Deer Valley
unfortunately Presley had the flu or food poisoning
(a lot of throw up but no fever?)
We had a party for my brother's birthday.

Chocolate raspberry cake from Windy Ridge Bakery in Park City.
Everything we had from them was unreal.
We will definitely be going back!

Yummy cupcakes from Cupcake Chic in Provo.

And breakfast included more sweet treats from Windy Ridge.
My favorite thing is almond croissants, and they did not disappoint!

speaking of ...

I found myself in the local Anthro this evening to check out the holiday visuals.
The deer head in at the entrance cash wrap had me speechless.

I also saw these beauties
(they are better in person)
I'm trying to figure out how I can justify $30 for each ornament ...
This will definitely be on my list to grab when the holiday decor goes on sale for next year.

And don't even get me started on these darlings.
I'm in love.
must. have.

And if I am going with this colorful theme,
You know I'll be draping this garland on my tree!
