my mom's living room redo

Check out my Mom's living room redo on Alice Lane's blog today.  They did a great job, I can't wait to see it all finished!

textile crush

I am loving the fabrics by Kerry Cassill!
Her gorgeous bohemian prints are so up my alley.
I love that she combines vintage florals and modern graphics
with bedding, clothing, accessories , and by the yard.
and the fabrics are so so soft!
(she even has crib bedding -- yes please!)

This is by far my favorite print right now.
I can't stop thinking about having a headboard or chair upholstered in this!

DIY: Anthro Planters

I have loved this garden planter above from anthro for a while now, but didn't want to fork out $40!

then one day I saw this at homegoods - $9.99 are you out of your mind?

So, I bought a can of cream textured spray paint, and gave my planter it's first coat.

I then sprayed the planter with white spray paint
(I always have cans of white laying around)

Then back a few more times with the texture spray. This time concentrating more on where I wanted thicker texture - at the base and at some of the angles on top.

Here is the finished product!
Of course the anthro one is much prettier, but these pass the test - especially mixed in with the other plants!

coconut layer cake

This is by far my all time favorite cake!  It is so delicious, you must try it.  We got the recipe from a friend years ago, and haven't stopped using it since. It has become a tradition at Easter and birthdays.

Coconut Layer Cake

1 Yellow Cake Mix
4 eggs
3/4 cup instant vanilla pudding mix
1 1/3 cups water
1/2 cup oil
1 cup pecans, chopped
2 cups shredded coconut, slightly toasted (I toast enough for both the cake and frosting at the same time.  see below.)

Combine cake mix, eggs, pudding mix, water and oil in bowl.  With wire whip attachment mix at medium speed for 4 minutes.  Fold in pecans and 1 1/2 cups toasted coconut by hand.  Divide cake batter evenly between 3 (9 inch) pans.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Let cool.

Cream Cheese Frosting

1 8 oz cream cheese, room temp.
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp milk
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 cups shredded coconut, lightly toasted

Combine cream cheese, vanilla, and milk in bowl.  Whip together.  Gradually add powdered sugar while mixing until smooth.  Fold in toasted coconut by hand.  Spread on each cake layer and sides.  Enjoy!

summer time

It's starting to feel a lot like summer around here.
which has me thinking of my summer must haves,
I thought I'd share a few with you.
A sea salt body scrub does a body good.  for real.

I have been using this product for a few years now in the summer.  I don't tan my face and neck, and this is my secret!  Love.  And, if you are only using it on your face, it lasts forever.

OPI nail polish all. summer. long.

Listening to this song.
If you are anything like my sugar pie - and can't get past an intro...
get over it and keep listening.
Thanks for the music tip Robb.(baby brother)

This is miracle cream for anything really.  I love calendula cream! But I especially love it in the summer if Presley gets a little burn.  This treats it instantly - she has sun kissed cheeks by morning!
(I also use this for diaper rash)

I can't get enough of this stuff!  And love that it now comes in a tube.

I think this would be the perfect summer bag.
Alba kukui nut body oil.
makes your skin so soft, it is good for you, and smells delish!
I actually love all Alba products.  You can usually find them in health food stores.

and, if wishes were fishes I'd be swimming alongside them in this suit!

What are some of your summer must haves?
